Illinois Genealogy Resources
Military Records
The earliest military records in Illinois are for the state militia
in Indian Wars and the National Guard. Illinois contributed four
regiments and four independent companies to the Mexican War. More
than 259,000 Illinois residents served in the Civil War. Subsequent
wars that involved Illinois citizens include include the
Spanish-American War and the World Wars.

Fifteenth Illinois Infantry Regiment - May 24, 1861 -
September 1, 1865 The 15th consolidated with 14th Infantry on
July 1, 1864, they were a single battalion but were referred to
as the "14th and 15th Illinois Veteran Battalion " The battalion
organization was discontinued on April 28, 1865 and the regiment
was reorganized with new recruits.
